People of all ages enjoy tennis and now, not only can folks enjoy the courts at UMS and MHS, but they can enjoy the two of the courts at UMS that have been lined for Pickleball, a growing sport in Montgomery. A district athletic survey administered a few years ago indicated that tennis was the number one sport in town. “We are excited to have partnered with the Township to restore the UMS tennis courts. Montgomery Township School District Superintendent Nancy Gartenberg agreed with the mayor regarding the excellent project results. The ten courts located on Burnt Hill Road between the Upper Middle School and Lower Middle School get a great deal of use and had been showing their age. The end of a 40-year lease between Montgomery Township and the Montgomery Township School District was recognized as a window of opportunity by municipal and school leadership. Mayor Mark Conforti advocated for this recreation facility upgrade as part of the Township’s ongoing parks improvement initiative. The new tennis courts are now available for student use as well as public use during non-school hours. The rebuild was accomplished through a shared services agreement by the municipality and the public schools, resulting in cost-savings on both sides.
